Houston police have arrested and charged a man they say used a box truck to run over and kill his girlfriend, FOX 26 reported. What officers describe as a deadly domestic dispute has now led to a manslaughter case against him.
The suspect has been identified by police. They named 33-year-old Keith Sims, who is now behind bars and charged with manslaughter in connection with the woman's death.
The killing unfolded in the middle of the afternoon. According to police, the deadly dispute broke out around 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday outside the Ventura Lofts apartments, near Gessner and Westheimer in Houston.
Investigators say the confrontation turned violent after a quarrel. Police say that, following an argument, Sims slammed the moving truck into his girlfriend, using the vehicle as the weapon that caused her death.
Rather than remain at the scene, the driver fled. Police say Sims drove away from the area immediately afterward, leaving the apartment complex behind as officers were called to the scene.
The flight did not last long. Officers tracked Sims down a short distance away, on Cross Timber Street, where he was taken into custody.
He now faces the consequences in the courts. Sims remains behind bars on the manslaughter charge as the investigation into the woman's death continues.
