A 19-year-old man has died and police are searching for three suspects following a shooting on Houston's South Side, according to FOX 26 Houston. Investigators identified the victim as Jose Acosta, who was killed in an attack that began as a robbery earlier in the week.
Police say Acosta and his 15-year-old brother were robbed at gunpoint on Monday. The confrontation quickly turned violent as the two were targeted by the armed suspects, in an incident that would end with Acosta losing his life, according to the station.
In an attempt to get away from the robbery, Acosta tried to drive off from the scene. As he did, police say the robber opened fire, shooting at him while he was trying to escape the armed confrontation.
The gunfire caused Acosta to lose control of the vehicle and crash into a ditch, according to the report. He did not survive the attack, while his 15-year-old brother had been with him at the time the two were robbed.
Investigators are now searching for three suspects in connection with the deadly robbery and shooting, the station reported. The case remains under active investigation as police work to identify those responsible for Acosta's death.
Anyone with information about the case is being urged to come forward. Police asked that tips be directed to Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS, as they continue their effort to track down the three suspects still being sought in the shooting.
