A man is in custody after a Harris County Precinct 4 constable deputy was shot during an overnight confrontation in Humble. The deputy survived the shooting and was listed in stable condition. The violence set off a standoff that ended hours later with the suspect's arrest.
According to investigators, the incident unfolded just before 10 p.m. at the intersection of Woodland Hills and Balmoral Bay Drive. Deputies had been called to the area after reports of a man firing a gun at an apartment complex.
When constable deputies arrived, the man got into a shootout with them. One of the deputies was struck several times during the exchange of gunfire, authorities said.
After the gunfire, the suspect ran to a nearby apartment, leading to a standoff with law enforcement. The situation kept deputies on the scene for several hours as they worked to bring it to a close.
The man was eventually taken into custody several hours later. He was then taken to a hospital to be treated for a police canine bite he sustained during the arrest.
The wounded constable deputy was also taken to a hospital, where he was reported to be in stable condition. Investigators were working to piece together exactly what led up to the shooting.
