Marysville police arrest jewelry heist suspect through DNA evidence

Police in Marysville, Washington, have arrested a suspect in a jewelry heist after DNA evidence linked him to the crime. Surveillance video showed two men smashing a display case and stealing more than 47,000 dollars worth of jewelry from a JCPenney.

Police in Marysville, Washington, have arrested a suspect in a jewelry heist, crediting DNA evidence with helping crack the case. The breakthrough allowed detectives to put a name to one of the people involved in a theft that had remained unsolved for months.

Surveillance video from a JCPenney captured the crime, showing two men smashing through a display case and making off with more than 47,000 dollars worth of jewelry. The heist, which took place in July, left investigators with footage of the act but the task of identifying who was behind it.

After a lengthy investigation that involved physical evidence and DNA analysis, detectives were able to identify one of the suspects as Glenn Osborne. The forensic work proved central to moving the case forward and tying a specific individual to the robbery.

Police say Osborne was arrested in late May in the Bothell area. At the time of his arrest, he was armed with a handgun, an additional detail that would factor into the charges he ended up facing once he was taken into custody.

According to police, Osborne is a convicted felon, which means he is not allowed to possess firearms. The handgun found with him at the time of the arrest therefore added a separate legal issue on top of the allegations connected to the jewelry theft itself.

Osborne was booked into jail on charges of second-degree burglary, first-degree theft, trafficking in stolen property, and unlawful possession of a firearm. He is currently free on bond while he awaits trial in the case stemming from the jewelry heist.
