Two firefighters were injured while battling a house fire in Missouri City early on Saturday, a blaze that also claimed the lives of two family pets. The crew members were hurt as they worked to bring the flames under control at the home, in an incident that left the property heavily damaged.
Emergency crews were called to the scene at around 5:30 on Saturday. The fire was at a home in the Brazos Oaks area of Missouri City, on Quail Meadow Drive, where responders were dispatched to deal with the developing blaze.
On reaching the property, firefighters found a heavy fire burning in the attic of the home. The location of the flames, high in the structure of the house, made for a difficult and dangerous job for the crews who moved in to attack the blaze from inside and out.
Despite the conditions, firefighters were able to get the fire under control relatively quickly. The speed of their response helped to stop the flames from spreading further, but two members of the crew were hurt during the effort to extinguish the fire.
Two family pets were found inside the home as the fire was brought under control. The animals were given emergency care by responders at the scene, but, despite those efforts, neither of them survived. Officials said no residents of the home were hurt in the fire.
The house itself was left with major fire and smoke damage once the blaze was out. While the home and its two pets were lost, the outcome could have been worse, with all of the people connected to the property accounted for and only the two firefighters reported hurt in the response.
