Three men are accused of moving rifles, machetes, knives and drugs in a Home Depot parking lot in Nassau County, according to News 12 New York. The station reported the arrests among its Monday morning news.
They were arrested after officers on routine patrol saw them moving a wooden crate into a car in Jericho, according to the report. The chance sighting during the patrol led to the men being stopped.
The men are from Central Islip and Newcastle, the station said. Their arrests unfolded in a busy commercial area on Long Island.
The three were taken into custody on Friday afternoon, according to News 12 New York. The timing placed the arrests at the start of the weekend.
Long Islanders who spoke with the station said they were shocked by the case. It's just crazy to do something like that, one resident said, describing it as happening right in front of people.
Gilberto and Rudy Rivera Lopez were released with electronic monitoring, according to the report. That arrangement allowed them to be tracked while the case proceeds.
Police say Gutierrez Benita is now in ICE custody, according to News 12 New York. The station reported that detail as it laid out where each of the three men stood after the arrests.
