A collision between two boats off the Jersey Shore led to a rescue in New Jersey waters, according to a report by Eyewitness News. The crash left both vessels damaged and required the help of the Coast Guard to keep them from sinking.
According to the report, the two boats collided about eight miles offshore. One of them was a 32-foot research vessel, while the other was a 33-foot Grady White, and the two crashed into each other out on the water.
One person was taken to the hospital with head and arm injuries following the collision. Beyond that single injured person, no one else on board either boat was hurt in the crash, according to the account.
After the impact, both boats were taking on water, raising the risk that one or both vessels could sink before help arrived. The situation required a quick response to keep the damaged boats above the surface.
The Coast Guard responded to the collision and used pumps to keep both boats afloat. The pumps were run to hold the vessels up until they could be safely moved out of the water.
Once the boats had been stabilized, they were towed to shore. The towing operation brought both damaged vessels back in from the spot roughly eight miles off the coast where the collision had taken place.
