Relief may be coming for New Yorkers hit by high egg prices, as more than 280,000 eggs are heading to New York City families, according to News 12 New York. The eggs are being distributed after Attorney General Letitia James secured a settlement with major egg producers.
The egg producers had been accused of fixing prices, the station reported. The settlement resolves that case with the attorney general's office.
The first delivery, more than 23,000 cartons, has already arrived at City Harvest in Brooklyn, according to News 12. It marks the start of the distribution effort.
Nearly 5 million eggs are set to reach food banks across New York, the station reported. The eggs are intended to help families through the food bank network.
As part of the settlement, the companies will also pay $3.3 million, according to News 12. The payment is in addition to the eggs being provided.
