A collision and rollover involving two 18-wheelers shut down part of the Hardy Toll Road in the Aldine area of north Houston, according to FOX 26 Houston. The station reported from the scene near South Hardy and Aldine Bender, describing what a press release called a double heavy commercial vehicle collision.
FOX 26 said one of the semis ended up on an active Union Pacific railroad track, while a tanker was left sitting in the street. The station described the tanker as the focal point of the investigation, with the wreckage spread across both the roadway and the rail line.
Because the semi came to rest on an active Union Pacific track, crews said they would need a wrecker or tow truck to pull it off, FOX 26 reported. The station said Union Pacific had likely been contacted to make sure no trains would be using the line while the truck remained on the tracks.
Multiple agencies were working together at the scene, according to FOX 26, including the Little York Fire Department, the Harris County Precinct 1 Constable's Office and the Harris County Emergency Corps. The station said the crews were coordinating on the cleanup of the tangled wreckage.
The crash forced southbound traffic on the Hardy Toll Road to be rerouted, FOX 26 reported. The station said drivers were getting by slowly, with one lane of traffic being squeezed through along the shoulder as the roadway remained partly blocked.
FOX 26 said it had been raining at the scene, and that crews expected the cleanup could take quite some time given the need to remove a semi from the railroad tracks. The station described the situation as still developing as responders worked to clear the road and the rail line.
