A man died after being struck by a train in Norwalk, Connecticut, on Wednesday night, in an incident that also involved two other people who were left unharmed, according to News 12 New York. He was one of three people who were hit by the train on the railroad tracks in the area, in a case that is now under investigation.
The incident happened at around 8:15 p.m. on Wednesday, on the railroad tracks behind the Watershed Hotel on Main Avenue. Emergency responders were called to the back of 353 Main Avenue, where the Norwalk Fire Department was among the crews that responded to the scene.
When fire crews got there, they found police escorting two men, who were conscious and alert, off the tracks. The two told responders that a third person was still stuck under the train, caught in between the two sets of tracks on a bridge over the river, according to the station.
Fire crews then worked to reach the trapped man, using a Stokes basket to remove him from underneath the train. Once he was freed, he was rushed to Norwalk Hospital as responders tried to save his life, the station reported.
Despite those efforts, the man later died at the hospital. His identity had not been revealed as of the report, News 12 New York said. The two other people who had been struck on the tracks were not injured in the incident.
The investigation into what happened remained ongoing, according to the station. Officials had not released any further details about how the three people came to be on the tracks or exactly how they were struck by the train.
