Oklahoma City police detain several after string of gas station robberies

Oklahoma City police detained several people after a suspected chain of armed robberies at gas stations on the northwest side of the metro. According to police, officers traced a suspect's car to an apartment complex at Northwest 122nd and Green Valley Drive, just north of Lake Hefner, where four people came down the steps with their arms up. At least two reportedly matched the description tied to the robberies, with the confirmed locations all within four miles. A suspect was also previously seen on surveillance robbing a gas station nearly 30 miles south.

Oklahoma City police detained several people on Tuesday in connection with what officers described as a suspected chain of armed robberies at local gas stations. According to the Oklahoma City Police Department, the activity was concentrated on the northwest side of the metro, where a series of holdups had been reported.

Investigators say they traced the suspect's car back to an apartment complex at Northwest 122nd and Green Valley Drive, just north of Lake Hefner. That location became the focus of the police operation as officers moved in to take people into custody.

Multiple people were detained at the scene. According to the account, four people were seen coming down the steps of the complex with their arms up, surrendering to police, in a moment that played out as the operation unfolded at the apartments.

Police indicated that at least two of those people apparently matched the description given for the gas station robberies. The other two allegedly just lived in that apartment unit, and officers said they were still working to learn what connection, if any, those individuals had to the case.

All of the locations confirmed so far were within four miles of where the suspects were detained, pointing to a tight cluster of incidents in the same part of the city. Police also said one of the suspects had previously been captured on surveillance cameras robbing another gas station nearly 30 miles south, at Southwest 59th and North Mustang Road.

With one police cruiser remaining at the apartment complex, officers said the investigation was continuing as they worked to confirm the details. Northwest 122nd, where the westbound lanes had been closed for some time during the operation, was reopened, and police said they would release more information once it could be confirmed.
