New York State Police are in the middle of a manhunt in Orange County for a homicide suspect, according to ABC7NY. The search was still active early Friday as investigators worked to track down the person they believe is responsible for a death tied to a house fire.
Police say the case began around 7:30 last night, when a home went up in flames in Greenville. Fire crews responded to the blaze, which set off a chain of events that would quickly turn into a criminal investigation.
While battling the fire, responders discovered a body inside, according to the report. Police believe that person was killed, shifting the response from a fire call to a homicide case.
Authorities have identified the suspect they are searching for as 32-year-old Thomas David Ryan. His name and photo were released as state police pressed the public for help in locating him.
According to ABC7NY, Ryan was last seen in the area of Greenville Turnpike and is considered armed and dangerous. Investigators urged anyone who spots him not to approach and to contact police, as the manhunt continued Friday morning.
