The mother of a 7-year-old girl who was allegedly sexually abused by a volunteer tutor at the Port Washington Public Library now plans to sue the library, according to Eyewitness News ABC7NY. The station reported that the mother is taking aim at the library where the abuse is alleged to have happened.
It was back in May when the mother took her daughter to the library for free tutoring sessions, ABC7NY reported. The station said those sessions are at the center of the allegations now being pursued by prosecutors and the family.
Prosecutors say that on two separate occasions, the tutor — 18-year-old Taylor Lindberg — led the child into a bathroom and abused her, according to ABC7NY. The station relayed that account from prosecutors as it laid out the case against the tutor.
Prosecutors also say Lindberg abused another child, ABC7NY reported. The station said the case involves more than one young victim tied to Lindberg's time as a tutor.
Lindberg now faces three counts of sexual abuse, according to ABC7NY. The station reported the charges as the criminal case against the 18-year-old moves forward.
With the criminal case pending, the girl's mother now plans to sue the Port Washington Public Library, ABC7NY reported. The station framed the planned lawsuit as the family's move to hold the institution accountable for what allegedly happened there.
