Shannon O'Connor, dubbed the 'party mom', has been sentenced to the maximum 35 years in prison after being convicted of hosting alcohol-fuelled sex parties for teenagers at her Los Gatos home. Over a dozen victims testified about lasting harm.
Shannon O'Connor, the 52-year-old woman dubbed the 'party mom', has been sentenced to the maximum 35 years and 10 months in prison for hosting alcohol-fuelled sex parties for teenagers at her Los Gatos, California home between 2020 and 2021. The judge handed down the maximum sentence after hearing days of victim impact statements.
O'Connor was convicted in March of 63 felony and misdemeanour counts connected to the parties she hosted. Over a dozen children and parents testified about the lasting harm caused by the events, where excessive drinking to the point of blacking out and sexual misconduct took place involving minors.
Santa Clara County District Attorney Jeff Rosen described O'Connor as a predator who targeted and preyed upon middle school children, using social media platform Snapchat to groom and manipulate more than a dozen young teenagers and preteens. Victims spoke of being manipulated, groomed, violated, and traumatised.
Prosecutors noted that after rumours of her behaviour spread in the South Bay area, O'Connor fled to Idaho where she continued grooming and luring young teenagers, demonstrating she remained a threat to communities. After credits for time served, she faces approximately 27 additional years in state prison.
Families of the victims expressed relief at the conclusion of a case that has followed them for years. Parents urged others to monitor their children's social media activity and be vigilant, noting that predators can look like anyone, including a neighbourhood mother. The case began in 2019 and involved months of trial testimony, as reported by Fox News.
