A water problem in one Connecticut city has taken a turn for the worse. There is a new update tonight on a water main break in Waterbury.
The repair effort hit a setback. The city says that as crews were making repairs, a second break happened near the original break.
That has prompted a precaution for the water supply. A boil water notice is now in effect.
The scale of the disruption is significant. More than 15,000 residents and businesses are impacted.
The city moved to get water to people directly. Officials handed out bottled water to residents this afternoon.
Another local institution is stepping in to help. The greater Waterbury YMCA is extending shower access to impacted residents on Saturday and Sunday.
The work has stretched on for days. Crews have been on scene since the first break happened Tuesday morning.
