Police shot a man overnight in Westbury, on Long Island, in what is being investigated as a police-involved shooting, according to Eyewitness News ABC7NY. The station reported that the man suffered a gunshot wound to the face and that the location remained an active scene into the morning.
According to investigators cited by ABC7NY, shots were fired out of a vehicle on Brush Hollow Road at 6th Street just after 11 o'clock the previous evening. Police were seen surrounding an SUV in the street with its front passenger side window blown out, the station reported.
One man in his 20s was rushed to Nassau University Medical Center, ABC7NY reported, though his condition was not known as of the morning report. A knife was recovered at the scene, according to the station, one of the early details investigators disclosed as the inquiry got underway.
The station's reporter, live from Westbury, said police were still working to release more information and that the street remained cordoned off as an active scene. ABC7NY said it would stay with the story as investigators worked to establish the moments that led to the gunfire.
