Yonkers police are investigating a fatal shooting that left a 20-year-old man dead and four other people wounded at a Westchester County intersection, according to News 12 New York. The station reported the update after officers had earlier described five people shot in the Getty Square area with no arrests.
The shooting happened at about a quarter to nine the previous night at Elm Street and Palisades Avenue, police told News 12. Investigators said five victims in total were struck by gunfire at the scene.
A 20-year-old man was pronounced dead after suffering a gunshot wound to the back, according to the report. He was the only person killed in the shooting.
The four other victims were teenagers, the station reported, one 16 years old, two 15-year-olds and a 14-year-old. Each of them suffered non-life-threatening gunshot wounds.
Those four victims remained hospitalized in stable to critical condition, according to News 12 New York. Police did not immediately release further details about how each of them was recovering.
A 15-year-old male was taken into custody at the scene, the report said. Investigators recovered a loaded gun and ballistics evidence at the location as they pieced together what happened.
Detectives told News 12 New York that the shooting was a targeted hit and that there is no ongoing threat to the public. The investigation into the attack remains active.
