Severe weekend storms swept across parts of Saskatchewan, bringing tornado warnings, damaging hail and flooding as residents scrambled for cover.
According to CBC News, at least a dozen communities in the province were placed under a tornado warning over the weekend, and a tornado reportedly touched down near a resort village north of the Battlefords.
The storms dropped golf ball sized hail on the area. In the resort village, more than 100 people hunkered down in the community hall basement to wait out the worst of the weather.
For some residents, the storms brought flooding they had never dealt with before. One person described being stressed and shaken after experiencing a flooded basement for the first time.
Environment Canada said that Swift Current saw winds gusting up to 120 kilometres per hour during the system, underscoring the power of the storms that moved through the region.
One meteorologist noted that these types of storms are common at this time of year. Environment Canada said the next couple of days would be much calmer, though another storm system was expected to move in afterward.
