An 81-year-old man from Mississauga has died after a crash on Highway 427 in the Toronto area, a collision that shut down a stretch of the busy route for hours.
The crash happened in the northbound lanes of the highway at Finch Avenue. According to police, it involved a single motor vehicle that went into the left guardrail.
As a result of the collision, the 81-year-old man from Mississauga was pronounced dead. Investigators said they had not yet released details about what caused the crash.
Others involved were taken to a local hospital with minor injuries, according to authorities, who continued to piece together the sequence of events at the scene.
A stretch of the 427 near Finch was closed for around five hours while investigators worked, snarling traffic on one of the region's major highways during the closure.
Ontario Provincial Police asked anyone with information, or with dash cam footage from the area, to come forward as they continued to investigate the cause of the deadly crash.
