Three people have been killed and two others injured in a serious crash in Omemee, in the City of Kawartha Lakes. The collision involved four motorcycles and another vehicle, making it one of the more devastating road incidents to hit the area in recent times. Ontario Provincial Police are now investigating what unfolded on the road there.
According to provincial police, the crash brought together a number of riders and a vehicle in a single, deadly sequence of events. The scale of it, with four motorcycles caught up in the same collision, points to a chaotic scene that left multiple people gravely hurt. Officers responded to find casualties at the location in Omemee.
Two of the victims died at the scene. Police said an 18-year-old from Peterborough was among those killed, alongside a 72-year-old motorcyclist. The deaths of two riders so far apart in age underline how indiscriminate the impact of the crash was for those caught up in it.
The toll then rose further after the collision. A 65-year-old rider who had been hurt in the crash later died in hospital, bringing the total number of people killed to three. The progression from two deaths at the scene to a third in hospital marked a grim development in the hours that followed.
Beyond those who lost their lives, two other people were injured in the crash. Their conditions were not detailed, but their presence among the casualties adds to the human cost of an incident that affected several riders at once. Emergency crews were left dealing with a collision that produced both fatalities and injuries on the same stretch of road.
Ontario Provincial Police have not yet said what caused the motorcycles and the vehicle to collide. The investigation is continuing as officers work to establish the circumstances of the crash in Omemee. For now, the focus remains on piecing together how an outing on the road ended with three riders dead and two more hurt.
