Two people were seriously hurt when a boat crashed onto the rocks along Toronto's waterfront over the weekend, in an early-morning incident that left one of them in life-threatening condition.
The crash happened early on Sunday morning, just after 5 a.m., according to police. The boat came to grief on the rocks near Marine Parade Drive and Lakeshore, along the city's lake shore where the waterfront meets the water's edge.
Emergency crews pulled two people, a man and a woman, from the boat after it struck the rocks. Both were taken to hospital in the aftermath of the crash for treatment of their injuries.
Police said one of the two suffered serious injuries, while the other was left in life-threatening condition. The severity of their injuries pointed to the force with which the boat had come up against the rocks.
Toronto police said they are investigating exactly what happened, working to piece together how the boat ended up crashing onto the rocks at such an early hour on the waterfront.
The circumstances that led to the crash were not immediately clear, and authorities had not released further details as their investigation into the weekend incident got underway.
