A man is dead after a shooting at a home in Brampton, and Peel Regional Police say they are now searching for two suspects who fled the scene. CBC News reported that the violence unfolded around suppertime, inside a large detached house, in what investigators described as a targeted attack rather than a random act of gun violence.

The shooting happened at a residence on Crown Victoria Drive, in the area of Credit View Drive and Sandalwood Parkway, in the city northwest of Toronto. Police said the call came in at about 7 p.m., and when officers arrived they located an adult man inside the home suffering from gunshot wounds.

Despite the emergency response, the victim could not be saved. According to Peel police, the man was pronounced dead at the scene, turning a quiet residential street into the focus of a homicide investigation as detectives began trying to piece together exactly what had happened inside the house.

Investigators said the circumstances pointed away from a random crime. The shooting had all the markings of a targeted shooting, an officer at the scene explained, although police could not confirm whether the man who was killed had actually been the intended target of the attack.

Adding to the questions surrounding the case, police noted that the victim did not live inside the home where he was found. That detail has become one of the threads investigators are pulling on as they try to establish why the shooting took place at that particular address.

Police said they are looking for two suspects who left the scene in a dark sedan. The descriptions available remained very limited, with the pair described only as two men of medium build wearing dark clothing, leaving officers with little to go on in the immediate aftermath of the killing.

For neighbours, the shooting shattered a sense of calm on a street many had called home for decades. One resident, who said he had been at dinner with his family when he heard the commotion, called it scary and the first time anything like it had happened there, after living in the area for more than 25 years. Police said they are reviewing video footage and speaking with neighbours as the investigation continues.
