York Regional Police are investigating two shootings that struck a vehicle and homes in the early morning hours, with the incidents unfolding just two hours apart in the communities of Aurora and King City. In both cases, families were asleep in their beds when the gunfire erupted, a detail that has heightened concern across the normally quiet suburban neighbourhoods north of Toronto.
At the scene in Aurora, multiple shots were fired into a vehicle parked on a driveway connected to a townhouse. At least one of the bullets travelled through the garage next door, striking a motorcycle that was parked inside. According to the account, children were at home with their parents when the shots rang out, and despite the volume of gunfire, no one was physically injured in the incident.
A man who lives a few doors down described the moment the shooting unfolded, recalling that he had woken early for his job at a golf course at around 3:36 in the morning. He said he heard a single gunshot, followed three to five seconds later by a second, and then roughly thirty seconds after that two more shots fired back to back. He was about to call York Regional Police when he heard a siren and realised officers were already on their way.
Investigators say the Aurora shooting was not an isolated event. On Tuesday, a similar shooting was reported at a home in King City, where the method appeared to mirror the latest case. Shots were fired into the house during the early morning hours while the residents, like those in Aurora, were asleep in their beds, raising the possibility that the two attacks are linked in some way.
Police say they are still searching for suspects in both shootings and are working to establish a motive. A central question for investigators is whether the cases are connected, given the similarities in timing and approach, with both incidents targeting residences in the small hours of the morning when families would have been home and most vulnerable.
Officers have been canvassing the affected areas for witnesses and any footage that might help advance the investigations. According to police, there are a significant number of security cameras throughout these neighbourhoods, and authorities are appealing to residents and passers-by who may have captured relevant images or video to come forward with what they have.
Neighbours who spoke about the violence said they were stunned by what had happened and had no idea why the homes would have been targeted. York Regional Police are urging anyone with information about either shooting, or about the people responsible, to contact them directly so that investigators can piece together what led to the gunfire and prevent any further incidents.
