Case against suspended MP Dan Norris sent to CPS over serious sexual offence allegations

The case against suspended Labour MP Dan Norris has been sent to the Crown Prosecution Service, which will decide whether to bring charges. Avon and Somerset Police said the allegations relate to rape against three women, sexual assault against a fourth woman, and voyeurism and upskirting against a number of women, spanning the 2000s and the 2020s. Norris, who was suspended by Labour when he was arrested in 2025 and now sits as an independent, has not been charged.

The case against the suspended Labour MP Dan Norris has been sent to the Crown Prosecution Service, Sky News understands. He faces multiple allegations of serious sexual offences, and the CPS will now consider whether or not to bring charges against him.

According to Avon and Somerset Police, the allegations relate to rape against three women and sexual assault against a fourth woman, as well as voyeurism and upskirting against a number of women. The police said the allegations span the 2000s and the 2020s. No charges have been brought at this stage.

The investigation has been led by the force's serious sexual offences investigations team. It began in December 2024, and Norris was first arrested early the following year, in April 2025, with inquiries continuing for more than a year before the file was submitted to prosecutors.

With the file now in the hands of the Crown Prosecution Service, it falls to the CPS to decide whether the evidence meets the threshold to charge. Until any such decision is taken, Norris has not been charged with any offence.

Police said they have updated the women involved about this development and would continue to make sure they have access to any help or support they need, as the case moves into its next stage.

A spokesperson for the Labour Party said the allegations against Dan Norris are appalling and that any person found guilty of such abhorrent crimes must face the full force of the law, adding that the party could not comment further while legal proceedings are ongoing.

Norris was a Member of Parliament for well over a decade in total and returned to Westminster at the 2024 general election, when he defeated the Conservative figure Jacob Rees-Mogg, and he also served as mayor of the West of England. He was suspended by Labour as soon as he was arrested in 2025 and now sits as an independent MP.
