Anambra State Governor, Professor Chukwuma Soludo, has commissioned a newly built ultra-modern market in the Nise community of Awka South Local Government Area. The governor presented the project as part of a wider drive to strengthen local commerce across the state and to give communities modern trading facilities.
The new market is made up of 300 purpose-built shops. According to the governor, the facility meets all the basic foundations and amenities expected of a modern community market, ranging from the trading spaces themselves to a dedicated parking lot for traders and shoppers.
During the commissioning, Soludo was seen inspecting the shops, the open spaces and the parking area. He noted that the design and layout of the market were in line with his administration's specifications for market projects across Anambra State.
A distinctive feature of the project is how it was financed. The governor commended the Nise community for building the market through crowdfunding, with residents pooling their resources together to bring the project to completion rather than relying solely on government money.
He described the initiative as a model worth emulating, recommending that other communities that do not yet have a market of this nature learn from the Nise example. The consultant who worked on the project, he noted, is also from Nise, underlining the local character of the effort.
The commissioning fits into the state government's development philosophy of public-private-community partnership, under which communities are encouraged to take ownership of projects with support from the administration rather than waiting entirely on the state.
For the people of Nise, the new market represents both a boost to local trade and a sense of ownership over a facility they helped to fund. The governor framed it as the latest in a series of community-driven projects emerging across Anambra under his administration's approach to development.
