Nigeria's Content Development and Monitoring Board, the NCDMB, says its Oil and Gas Park Scheme in Bayelsa State will become operational by the fourth quarter of 2026. The announcement signals that one of the country's planned industrial hubs for the petroleum sector is moving from construction towards actual use. It is presented as a significant step for local manufacturing in the oil and gas industry.
Central to getting the park running is a dedicated power solution. The board plans to install a 2.5 megawatt compressed natural gas, or CNG, power plant at the site. The aim is to ensure a reliable supply of electricity for the industrial activities that will take place within the facility, addressing one of the biggest hurdles for manufacturing operations.
The assurance on the timeline came from the board's management following an inspection visit to the site. Officials noted steady progress on key infrastructure, framing the park as a future major oil and gas manufacturing hub. The visit was used to take stock of how close the facility is to completion.
According to the project's management, several facilities at the park have already been completed and are ready for use. These include manufacturing floors, a water treatment plant, accommodation units, classrooms, an amphitheater and residential apartments. The mix of industrial and support buildings points to a site designed for both production and training.
Work on the park's power backbone has also advanced. The board said it had completed key power installations such as switchgear buildings, transformers and generators. Together with the planned CNG plant, these are intended to give the park a stable energy base once it begins operations.
Beyond the buildings and power supply, the project is being pitched on its economic impact. It is expected to create more than 2,000 jobs and to boost local content in the oil and gas sector. By providing a base for manufacturing components and equipment locally, the scheme is meant to reduce reliance on imports and keep more of the industry's activity within the country.
