Lawmakers representing the zone in both the Senate and House of Representatives have passed a vote of confidence on Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah, formally adopting him for another term. Backers urged supporters not to be distracted by opposition voices, arguing that the governor had shown every sign of a leader with a clear mission and vision and the willingness to implement it.
The adoption was carried through a motion on the floor of the gathering, moved by one of the senators and seconded by another lawmaker. After the formal step, the floor was opened to other stakeholders, who took turns to share their thoughts on the governor's record and his bid for a second term.
Several speakers praised what they described as Mbah's developmental strides, pointing in particular to the spread of projects across the area. One backer summed up the mood with a familiar argument, saying that a winning team should not be changed, and that when a team is performing well there is naturally no reason to alter it.
Responding to the show of support, Governor Mbah expressed gratitude for what he called the overwhelming backing on display. He assured the people that the confidence shown in his administration would not be taken for granted, and remarked that the size of the crowd alone could not fully convey how delighted he was to be there.
He told the gathering that there is no greater honor than that bestowed by one's own people, adding that he was deeply honored and grateful for what they had demonstrated. The endorsement, he said, stood as strong validation for what had been achieved together during his time in office.
A major highlight of the event was the presentation of a 300 million naira cheque to Governor Peter Mbah in support of his re-election bid. The gesture, made before the assembled lawmakers and stakeholders, underlined the scale of the backing being mobilised behind the governor as he moves toward seeking another term.
