Bauchi inaugurates over 2,000 vigilante and forest guards

The Bauchi State Government has formally inaugurated more than 2,000 vigilante operatives and forest guards to protect forests and natural resources and strengthen security across the state. Governor Bala Mohammed charged the new personnel to take the assignment seriously and warned against any misconduct.

The Bauchi State Government has formally inaugurated more than 2,000 vigilante operatives and forest guards in a move aimed at protecting forests and natural resources while strengthening security across the state. The new personnel were presented during a passing-out parade held at the police training school in Bauchi, where families, government officials and representatives of various security agencies gathered to witness the ceremony.

Governor Bala Mohammed, who was represented at the event by his deputy, charged the newly inaugurated guards to take their assignment seriously. He warned that the government would not tolerate acts of compromise, misconduct or abuse of office, stressing that the trust placed in the recruits carries a clear responsibility to serve the communities they are meant to protect.

The men and women being deployed completed their training course at the police training school in Bauchi. During the ceremony, the commandant of the school outlined the courses the trainees had undertaken throughout the training period, setting out the skills and discipline they were expected to bring to their duties once stationed in the field.

A special contingent of 100 newly recruited personnel, trained under the supervision of the Office of the National Security Adviser, marched in the parade and rendered a salute, which was received by the deputy governor on behalf of Governor Bala Mohammed. Their presence underscored the involvement of national security structures in the state initiative.

Government officials expressed optimism that the newly trained personnel would contribute significantly to restoring peace and security in communities across Bauchi State. They pointed to what they described as a hybrid approach to security, which they said has in no small measure brought relief to communities that have faced safety challenges.

Speakers at the parade reminded the newly commissioned forest guards that the uniform they wear symbolizes responsibility, discipline, integrity and service. The guards were told they are expected to discharge their duties with the utmost professionalism, loyalty and courage, and to observe the established rules of engagement as they carry out their work.

The ceremony concluded with the newly inaugurated guards giving three hearty cheers before marching out to assume their new responsibilities. The inauguration forms part of wider efforts by the state to bolster security and safeguard forest areas and natural resources, with officials charging the personnel to justify the confidence reposed in them through their conduct on duty.
