Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed has constituted a committee of inquiry to investigate the causes of a farmer-herder clash in the Darazo local government area. The violence claimed more than ten lives, and the governor said the panel would establish what led to the deadly confrontation.

The governor made the announcement during a visit to Lanzai, where he went to commiserate with the victims. He used the occasion to assess the situation on the ground and to reassure affected residents of the government's response.

According to his account, the clash stemmed from a dispute that escalated when assailants moved into the Darazo area and attacked residents, with reprisals that left several people dead on both sides. The governor described the scale of the killings as deeply troubling for the community.

Bala Mohammed condemned those behind the violence, saying that the overwhelming majority of the people of Bauchi would not allow such unrest and civil disorder. He stressed that taking the law into one's own hands was unacceptable and would not be tolerated.

As part of the immediate response, the governor ordered security operatives to maintain a strong presence in the affected area. He framed the deployment as a measure to prevent further bloodshed and to restore confidence among residents.

The State Commissioner of Police gave assurances that the command would sustain its deployment until calm is fully restored. Officials noted that incidents of this kind could be averted if the police and other security agencies worked more closely with the communities they serve.

Authorities have called for greater investment in community partnership and engagement as a way to forestall similar clashes in the future. The committee of inquiry is now expected to determine responsibility and recommend steps to prevent a recurrence in the Darazo area.
