The Federal High Court sitting in Kaduna State has adjourned the corruption trial of former Governor Nasir El-Rufai to June 24, 2026. The adjournment came at the resumed sitting of a case that has drawn significant attention since it centres on a former state chief executive.
The case was filed by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission, known as the ICPC. It involves allegations of abuse of office, fraud and financial misconduct said to have taken place during El-Rufai's tenure as Governor of Kaduna State.
At the resumed sitting on Monday, the former governor arrived at the court at about 9:30am. He was accompanied by officials of the ICPC as well as operatives of the Department of State Services and the police, as the proceedings got under way.
According to the prosecution, funds had been released for projects that were either not executed or were irregularly managed during the period under review. The commission has built its case around these allegations as the trial moves through its stages.
For his part, the former governor continues to deny all the charges brought against him. He maintains his innocence in the matter, setting the stage for a contested trial as the court works through the evidence and arguments presented by both sides.
Previous hearings in the case had focused largely on bail applications and related legal arguments. Those earlier sessions dealt with procedural questions before the substance of the allegations could be examined in greater detail by the court.
With the matter now adjourned to June 24, 2026, attention turns to the next phase of the proceedings. The adjournment gives both the prosecution and the defence additional time before the court reconvenes to continue hearing the case against the former Kaduna State governor.
