Lagos police arrest over 150 suspects in Igodo dump site raid

The Lagos State Police Command says it has arrested more than 150 suspects and recovered arms and illicit drugs in a raid on the Igodo dump site in the Alimosho local government area of the state. The clearance operation, led by the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of operations, targeted a location chosen following intelligence reports about nefarious activities. Among the recoveries were a locally made pistol, other firearms, military-style camouflage, around a hundred motorcycles and various kinds of illicit drugs, with the suspects lined up at the police headquarters in Ikeja.

The Lagos State Police Command says it has arrested more than 150 suspects in a raid on the Igodo dump site, located in the Alimosho local government area of the state. According to Channels Television, the operation formed part of a wider clearance exercise, and the recoveries made at the scene were described by the police as alarming. The suspects were subsequently lined up at the police headquarters in Ikeja.

The clearance exercise was carried out under the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of operations, who oversaw the readiness for the raid. According to the command, the dump site was singled out as the latest target following intelligence reports about nefarious activities being carried out there. The location, the police said, is regarded as one of the black spots in the state.

The items recovered during the operation covered a range of weapons and other materials. Among them were firearms, including a locally made pistol, as well as military-style camouflage. In addition, the police said around a hundred motorcycles were recovered at the site, alongside various kinds of illicit drugs, in a haul that officers presented as evidence of the scale of the criminal activity in the area.

By lining up the suspects at the Ikeja headquarters, the command sought to underline the outcome of the operation. The police framed the raid as part of a determined effort to dismantle the networks operating out of such sites, insisting that the dump site had become a haven for criminal elements and that action was overdue given the intelligence that had been gathered.

The Lagos State Police boss stressed that the operation would not be limited to a single location, but would instead cover all the nooks and crannies of the state. He insisted that the command would not harbour criminals within its domain, presenting the Igodo raid as one stage in a broader, sustained campaign of intelligence-led operations and stronger collaboration with other security agencies.

The raid comes against the backdrop of wider concern in Nigeria over the proliferation of small arms and light weapons and the spread of illicit drugs. In a related indication of the scale of the drug problem, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency has reported seizing more than 2,500 kilograms of illicit drugs in the state between January and June 2026, underlining the pressure on the authorities to keep up enforcement across Lagos.
