GoPo Toys is recalling about 70,000 teething toys because of what the company describes as a potentially dangerous choking hazard. The recall covers a large batch of the soothing products that are designed to be chewed on by infants and very young children, the group most at risk if something goes wrong with a toy of this kind.
According to the company, the problem lies with the silicone pull strings attached to the toys. Those strings are longer and smaller than federal safety standards allow, a combination that regulators treat as a red flag precisely because of the danger it can pose to small children who put nearly everything in their mouths.
The specific risk, the company says, is that the silicone strings can become lodged in the back of a child's throat. For a teething product meant to be placed directly in a baby's mouth, that is the kind of defect that can turn an everyday item into an emergency in a matter of seconds.
The recall is not based on a purely theoretical concern. There have been three reports of the strings becoming lodged in a child's throat, incidents that appear to have prompted the company to act and pull the affected toys from use rather than wait for a more serious outcome.
All of the recalled teething toys were sold on Amazon, which means many of the affected products may have been bought online and shipped directly to homes. That distribution makes it important for parents and caregivers to check whether a teether they already own is part of the recall.
The company is urging customers to stop using the teethers immediately and to contact it directly for a refund. The guidance is straightforward: set the affected toys aside, keep them away from children, and reach out to arrange the refund rather than continuing to use a product now flagged as unsafe.
The action adds to a long list of recalls involving children's products over choking risks, a recurring concern for regulators and parents alike. For families, it is another reminder to keep track of recall notices and to act quickly when a toy meant to comfort a child is found to carry a hidden danger.
