A man has died following a stabbing in Pompano Beach, and the Broward Sheriff's Office says it has already made an arrest in connection with the deadly attack. What began as reports of a violent assault has now turned into a homicide investigation, as detectives work to establish exactly how the confrontation turned fatal on a busy stretch of the city.
According to detectives, the attack happened around seven o'clock the previous night, near the 2500 block of East Atlantic Boulevard. It was there that a man was found suffering from several stab wounds, in a scene that quickly drew the attention of law enforcement and emergency responders to the area.
The victim was rushed to a hospital in an effort to save his life. Despite that, he later died of his injuries, turning what might have been an assault case into a death investigation and adding urgency to the work of the detectives assigned to figure out what happened and why.
Investigators have identified the attacker as 67-year-old David Rice, who has been arrested in connection with the fatal stabbing. The arrest gives authorities a person in custody as they build their case, though many of the specific circumstances of the confrontation remain part of the ongoing investigation.
