A quiet residential street in Baytown became the scene of a deadly investigation on Friday, after a man and a woman were found dead in what police are treating as an apparent murder-suicide. FOX 26 reported from the neighborhood, where officers and detectives spent the afternoon working a scene that had left part of the street roped off.
According to Baytown police, the call came in around 2 p.m., when officers were sent to a home along Southwood Circle, near Southwood Drive. What brought them there was not a routine report but an alarming one, relayed through a third party who had dialed 911.
That third party told dispatchers that a man had claimed he shot and killed his wife and was contemplating taking his own life. The account set the tone for what officers would find when they arrived at the address and began to move through the property.
Police said that when officers got to the home, they found a woman who had been shot and killed near the front porch and front door. Investigators believe she was about 30 years old, though formal identification would be left to the authorities handling the case.
Officers then went inside the home, where they found a man who had also been shot to death. Police said he is believed to have been in his 50s, and that preliminary information indicates the man and the woman had been in a romantic relationship.
The city's police chief addressed the case publicly, sending out a statement on social media that described the deaths as a tragic incident and confirmed that the investigation was ongoing. Officials offered few additional details as the work at the scene continued into the evening.
By the time of the report, the Harris County Medical Examiner had arrived to take over that part of the process, while the surrounding street remained an active scene. FOX 26 said it was still working to gather more information from authorities, with police expected to release further details as the investigation moves forward.
