Police in the Bronx are searching for a suspect after a man was slashed in the Concourse Village neighborhood, in an attack that left the victim wounded but able to survive and sent investigators looking for the person responsible. The assault added to a run of similar incidents that have put a spotlight on street safety in the borough.
According to police, the attack unfolded on Selwyn Avenue in the morning hours. It was there, authorities said, that the 53-year-old victim was slashed, in a sudden burst of violence on a residential Bronx street where residents said such incidents rarely happen.
Despite his injuries, the man was able to get himself to a nearby hospital. Police said he had been slashed in the neck but was expected to recover, a measure of relief in an otherwise alarming case that unfolded in broad daylight.
As of the evening, police had not made any arrests. The suspect fled the scene and remained at large, leaving investigators to piece together what had led to the attack and to track down the person who carried it out.
Authorities have released a description of the person they are looking for. According to sources within the police department, officers are searching for a man who was wearing a blue shirt at the time of the attack, a detail they hope will jog the memory of anyone who saw him.
Police urged anyone who recognizes the suspect, or who has information about the attack or the man's whereabouts, to come forward and contact them, as the search for the assailant continued and the neighborhood absorbed the shock of another act of street violence.
