Bronx man stabbed to death in apartment, neighbor sought by police

A man was stabbed to death inside his apartment at 1006 Longfellow Avenue in the Longwood section of the Bronx, and police are searching for a suspect they believe was his neighbor, News 12 reported. The body was discovered after neighbors reported a foul smell, and the same building was the scene of a 2018 murder.

A man was stabbed to death inside his own apartment in the Longwood section of the Bronx, and police are searching for a suspect they believe was his neighbor, News 12 reported. Investigators have released new images of the person they are looking for as the search continues.

According to the landlord, the victim and his attacker knew each other and had been living together in the building for years before the deadly incident. That relationship has added a troubling dimension to a case that has unsettled the Longwood neighborhood.

Police responded to 1006 Longfellow Avenue just before 2 p.m. on Wednesday, where they found a man with a fatal stab wound to the chest. Investigators say the suspect used a knife to carry out the killing and then ran from the scene before officers arrived.

The discovery came after neighbors reported a foul smell to the landlord, with some believing the body had been inside the apartment for about a week. The landlord, who said he was renovating units in the two-story home, explained that a worker who went to check on the smell made the grim find.

In a phone call with News 12, the landlord recounted that the man was found dead with what he believed was a knife wound to the chest. Police have not released the victim's identity, nor have they detailed what may have led up to the killing.

Authorities are urging anyone with information to contact the Crime Stoppers hotline as they continue to search for the suspect, whose images have now been circulated publicly. The investigation remained active at the 41st Precinct, where officers are working to track him down.

The address also carries a grim history. In 2018, 25-year-old Lisa Marie Velasquez was murdered inside the same building, with her remains found later, a case that made the location one of the more notorious in the area and has now drawn renewed attention.
