Second arrest in Bronx robbery scheme that killed Jeremy Ortega

Police have made a second arrest in a suspected robbery scheme that killed a Bronx man last year, according to News 12. Investigators say 27-year-old Lenyn Toribio, arrested this week, worked with 25-year-old Welfy Espinal and others to stalk their victim, 24-year-old Jeremy Ortega, using a GPS tracker before ambushing him in front of his home at 26 Quincy Street on April 13, 2025. Espinal was arrested last month and faces murder along with other charges, while Toribio now faces attempted murder and manslaughter charges.

Police have made a second arrest in a suspected robbery scheme that ended in the killing of a young Bronx man last year, bringing a second suspect into custody in a case that investigators say was carefully planned. The arrest marks another step in a months-long effort to hold those responsible for the deadly ambush accountable.

According to News 12, the latest person taken into custody is 27-year-old Lenyn Toribio, who was arrested this week. Police say he now faces attempted murder and manslaughter charges in connection with the case, joining a co-defendant who had already been charged in the killing.

Investigators say Toribio did not act alone. They accuse him of working with 25-year-old Welfy Espinal, along with others, in the scheme that authorities describe as a plot to rob their target. Espinal was arrested last month and, according to police, faces a murder charge along with other counts.

The man who was killed has been identified as 24-year-old Jeremy Ortega. Police say the group set their sights on him and went to considerable lengths to track his movements before the deadly encounter, treating him as the target of a planned robbery.

Central to the case, investigators say, was the use of technology to follow the victim. According to police, the suspects stalked Ortega using a GPS tracker, allowing them to monitor his whereabouts in the lead-up to the attack that would ultimately claim his life.

The confrontation itself, police say, unfolded right outside the victim's own home. Authorities say the group ambushed Ortega in front of his residence at 26 Quincy Street on April 13, 2025, in the attack that killed him in the Throgs Neck section of the Bronx.

With both suspects now in custody, the case moves further into the court system, where Espinal faces the murder charge and Toribio the attempted murder and manslaughter counts. Authorities have continued to piece together the roles each is alleged to have played in a scheme that turned a robbery plot into a homicide.
