A Brooklyn man who admitted to a deadly shooting in East New York more than two years ago is due to be sentenced this week, bringing a long-running case toward its conclusion.
According to authorities, 40-year-old Dupree Gales pleaded guilty in the fatal shooting of 33-year-old Cody Toledo. The killing occurred in the area of Linwood Street and New Lots Avenue, in the East New York section of Brooklyn.
The shooting dates back to May of 2023. Toledo was struck by gunfire and rushed to a local hospital, where despite efforts to treat him he later died of his injuries.
Having entered his guilty plea in the case, Gales is now set to be sentenced on Friday. The hearing will determine the prison term he faces for the killing he has admitted carrying out.
The sentencing is expected to close out the criminal case against Gales, more than two years after Toledo was killed on the East New York street where the shooting took place.
Authorities did not detail the circumstances that led to the shooting in the latest update on the case, which resurfaced as the court looked ahead to Friday's sentencing date.
