Fifteen people were hurt in a bus crash in the Gravesend section of Brooklyn on Sunday morning, an incident that unfolded on one of the neighborhood's busy streets and drew a swift emergency response before authorities determined the injuries were minor.
The crash happened just before 10 a.m. along Avenue U, a main thoroughfare in Gravesend. Video captured on the Citizen app showed the scene in the moments afterward, with the collision occurring along the stretch between West Street and East 1st Street.
According to authorities, the bus rear-ended a truck that had been double-parked along the roadway. The impact was enough to leave more than a dozen people aboard the bus needing medical attention following the sudden collision.
All of those who were hurt in the crash were taken to the hospital to be evaluated. Despite the number of people involved, officials said the fifteen who were injured suffered only minor injuries, a relief given how the scene first appeared.
It was not immediately clear what led the bus to strike the double-parked truck, and authorities had not released further details on the circumstances as the response wound down and the injured were transported for treatment.
With everyone who was hurt taken away for care and the scene along Avenue U cleared, the crash ended without the more serious outcome that an incident involving so many people could have produced, leaving investigators to determine exactly how it happened.
