A man is behind bars after a violent knife attack in the Sunset Park section of Brooklyn left another man injured, according to News 12. Police say the slashing sent the victim to the hospital, and that a suspect was taken into custody as investigators worked to determine what had happened.
Authorities identified the man they arrested and laid out the charges he now faces. According to police, 45-year-old Lin Zhang has been charged with three counts of assault in connection with the attack, and officers were seen handcuffing him and placing him into a police car at the scene.
The violence itself unfolded late at night. Investigators say the male victim was slashed in the head and in the left arm at around 10:30 the previous night, wounds serious enough to require a trip to the hospital as emergency responders moved him for treatment.
Despite the nature of the attack, the outlook for the victim was reassuring. Police said the man was taken to Lutheran Hospital and that, thankfully, he is expected to be okay, a positive sign after an assault that could have proven far worse.
Officers also collected physical evidence at the scene that pointed to the severity of the encounter. According to police, they recovered two knives where the slashing took place, adding to the evidence investigators will weigh as they try to reconstruct exactly how the confrontation played out.
For now, key questions about the attack remain unanswered. Police have not said what led to the slashing, nor whether the two men knew each other, leaving the motive unclear as the investigation continues and the case against the man in custody moves forward.
