A fire that tore through an apartment building in Everett, Washington, has left ten people suddenly without a place to call home. What began as a blaze at a single complex quickly became an emergency for an entire group of residents, who found themselves displaced and facing an uncertain night as crews worked to bring the fire under control.
According to FOX 13 Seattle, fire crews responded to the Olin Field Apartments, located off Holly Drive in Everett. It was there that the fire broke out and spread, prompting a response from Everett Fire and turning an ordinary evening at the complex into a scene of flashing lights and displaced families gathering outside their building.
As firefighters assessed the scene, a picture emerged of where the worst of the damage was concentrated. Everett Fire says most of the damage was contained to a ground floor unit. The units on the second and third floors, meanwhile, sustained smoke damage, a reminder of how quickly smoke can spread through a multi story building even when flames are largely confined to one area.
The human toll of the fire came in the form of displacement rather than injury. In all, ten people were left out of their homes for the night, forced to leave behind the apartments where they lived. For those residents, the fire meant an abrupt upheaval, with belongings left behind and no immediate way to return to the units they had occupied.
For now, the question of how the fire started remains unanswered. It is not clear what sparked the blaze, and an investigation is underway to determine the cause. Fire investigators will typically look at the point of origin and possible ignition sources, but as of now officials have not offered an explanation for what set the apartment building alight.
In the immediate aftermath, attention turned to caring for those who had lost access to their homes. Everett's care team stepped in to help the ten people, along with their pets, find a place to stay for the night. That support offered at least a temporary refuge for residents suddenly displaced, ensuring that both people and their animals had somewhere to go while the situation was sorted out.
