A ruptured gas main sent emergency crews scrambling in Far Rockaway, Queens, where the break in the middle of the street left one person hospitalized and forced residents out of their homes, according to ABC7.
The rupture happened on Beach 28th Street, where crews were working to secure the main and make the area safe as the incident unfolded during the day.
According to ABC7, one person was taken to the hospital in connection with the rupture, though the extent of that person's condition was not immediately detailed.
As a precaution, homes in the immediate area were evacuated, and aerial footage from the scene showed people who had been forced from their houses standing around outside as crews worked.
The same footage captured the force of the rupture, showing a car completely covered with dirt near the site, a sign of how much material had been thrown up when the main gave way.
