A man who was fatally shot in a Fort Lauderdale neighborhood early Wednesday morning has been identified by CBS News Miami as 32-year-old Mike Menard. Police are still searching for whoever opened fire in the deadly shooting.
According to the report, Menard was taking out the trash from his parents' house on Northwest 13th Court at about 4:22 a.m. when he was shot. The area is a residential neighborhood south of Mills Pond Park, east of Interstate 95.
Surveillance video is said to show the moment he walks out of the house, seconds before the gunfire, while he was doing household chores. The footage has become part of the investigation into what happened.
Homicide detectives have taken over the case. Investigators removed a white Buick riddled with bullets from the scene, which had been roped off with crime scene tape as officers worked the area through the morning.
The victim's father spoke to CBS News Miami and said he was devastated. He described his son as a bright young man who had recently gotten in with the wrong crowd, adding that he was simply doing chores when he was killed.
As of the latest information, the shooter remained at large, and authorities had not said whether they had identified a suspect. Officers have been talking to people who live nearby as the investigation continues.
