A man has been shot and killed by police in Gaithersburg, Maryland, in an officer-involved shooting that unfolded on a Sunday evening after a call about an armed person at a bus stop. According to Montgomery County Police, officers from the county force and from the Gaithersburg City Police were dispatched at about 6:47 p.m. to the 9600 block of Lost Knife Road for a weapons complaint, sending multiple officers to the location within a short time of the initial call.

According to the account, the caller had told the emergency communications center that there was an adult male at the bus stop who was loading a gun. That report of a person actively handling a firearm in a public space framed how officers approached the scene when they arrived.
