An Uber driver has died in a two-vehicle crash in Harris County, Texas, sheriff's deputies confirmed, as investigators worked a scene that shut down part of a busy roadway.

The deadly collision happened at the intersection of TC Jester Boulevard and Sable Chase Drive. Deputies confirmed that one person had died in the two-car crash.

According to authorities, a red car apparently ran a red light and struck the white car. The driver of the white car, who deputies said was working as an Uber driver, died at the scene in what a reporter at the scene described as a tragic situation.

Officers believe that speed was a factor in the crash, which remained under investigation. Deputies also said they found open containers in the red car, and were seen pulling several alcohol bottles out of the vehicle.

As crews worked the scene, TC Jester Boulevard was closed where it meets Sable Chase Drive, with only some cars being let through the area during the response. Both vehicles involved sustained extensive damage, and recovery work was under way to clear the roadway.

Little York Fire Rescue responded to the crash alongside sheriff's deputies. Authorities had not released the identity of the person who died as they continued to investigate exactly what led to the collision.
