A 21-year-old man is being held without bond after police in Hollywood, Florida, say he shot and killed another man during a fight. Authorities have described the case as a deadly confrontation that unfolded in the early morning hours in a residential part of the city.
According to Hollywood police, officers responded to reports of a shooting at around 1 a.m. on Funston Street. When they arrived, they found a 21-year-old man from North Carolina on the ground with several gunshot wounds.
Police say the shooting happened during a fight between the two men. Investigators have identified the suspect as 21-year-old Devian Blount, who they say shot and killed the other man before the case moved into the hands of authorities.
According to police, both men had traveled to the Hollywood area from North Carolina, arriving with a group of friends. What began as a trip ended in violence, leaving one of the young men dead and the other facing serious consequences.
Police say the victim had been on a FaceTime call with his girlfriend at the time the shooting happened. He was taken to the hospital, where he died about an hour later, according to authorities.
