A family in Hollywood, Florida, has been left devastated after a fire tore through their home and killed 12 of their dogs. The blaze broke out in the 1900 block of Rodman Street, where the animals were all inside at the time. What began as an ordinary day ended in tragedy for the household, which lost almost all of its pets in a matter of moments once the flames took hold of the property.
In total there were 13 dogs in the home, including a litter of eight puppies, described as a small Yorkie poo breed. Of those animals, 12 died in the fire, leaving just a single survivor. That surviving dog, named Baby Judge, became the one bright spot in an otherwise heartbreaking event, as the rest of the dogs and puppies were lost when the fire swept through the family's home.
The owner, Andrea Santos, was away at work when the fire started. She realised something was wrong after checking her Ring camera, which showed smoke coming from the property. As soon as it clicked what was happening, she ran out of work and rushed home, only to be met by the sight of smoke pouring out of the house. By the time she arrived, it was already too late to save most of the animals.
Firefighters and police jumped into action once they reached the scene. Crews were seen performing CPR on Baby Judge, and their efforts managed to save the dog's life. The surviving animal was later released from a pet emergency room, and Santos was there to hold on tightly to him as he pulled through, describing the dog as especially near and dear to her after everything that had happened.
For Santos, the loss was deeply personal, as she considered the dogs part of her family. She spoke of them as her children and stressed how young many of them were, which made the loss even harder to bear. She described the routine and the fun the family had shared with the animals, saying the whole experience had been heartbreaking and that the sudden loss of so many little lives was overwhelming.
At this stage, the cause of the fire has not yet been established. Authorities are still working to determine how the blaze started, and an investigation into the incident remains open. Until that work is complete, it is not clear what triggered the fire that spread through the home on Rodman Street and trapped the animals inside before anyone could reach them in time.
In the aftermath, the family has set up an online fundraiser to help cover veterinary bills for the surviving dog and to begin rebuilding their lives. Santos said she remained grateful to the firefighters and police who responded and who ultimately saved Baby Judge, even as she grieved the loss of the other 12 dogs. The case has resonated as a reminder of how quickly a house fire can turn devastating for a household and its pets.
