A Houston family is searching for answers after a 33-year-old father of four was found dead in Buffalo Bayou, and his mother says she cannot accept the idea that he ended up there on his own. FOX 26 reported on the case, in which the grieving mother is now appealing to the public for any information that might explain how her son died.
The man was identified as Kenneth Young, described by his family as a father of four sons. His mother, Farrah Nelson, said she last spoke with her oldest child on April 22, the start of a timeline that the family has been trying to piece together in the weeks since his body was recovered.
According to Nelson, her son had spent some time at a motel on the Southwest Freeway with friends. She also said she knows he was treated in the emergency room at St. Joseph on April 25, a detail she pieced together from a hospital bill, before he was found days later.
On April 30, Kenneth was found in Buffalo Bayou near Sergeant Macario Garcia, having been in the water long enough that, his mother said, he could only be identified through his fingerprints. The condition in which he was found has deepened the family's anguish and their conviction that something was done to him.
Nelson does not believe her son took his own life, and she rejects the idea that he simply walked into the bayou. She pointed out that he was found wearing only his underwear, asking where the rest of his clothes had gone and insisting that someone must have stripped him before he ended up in the water.
She also believes there are people who know exactly what happened to him. In her appeal, Nelson said a lot of people know the circumstances of his death, and she pleaded with anyone with knowledge to come forward and help give the family the answers they are missing.
The case also fits a troubling wider pattern in the city. According to FOX 26, more than 200 bodies have been found in Houston bayous since 2017, with over 30 recovered across 2024 and 2025 alone, a backdrop that has left families like Kenneth Young's pressing for explanations as his death remains unresolved.
