Houston Pride Parade Postponed Over Flooding, Festival Still Draws Thousands

Houston's annual Pride Parade was postponed because of severe weather and flooding near its downtown staging area, with organizers citing safety. The festival outside City Hall still drew thousands, and organizers say the 2026 parade will be rescheduled for a date between July 19 and October 31, after the FIFA World Cup.

Houston's annual Pride Parade was postponed on Saturday because of severe weather, in a decision organizers said was driven above all by safety. The parade will be rescheduled for a later date, though the afternoon's Pride Festival still went ahead and drew large crowds despite the disruption.

Even with the parade off, the celebration did not stop. Thousands of people turned out for the Pride Festival held outside City Hall in downtown Houston, keeping the day alive for those who had come to mark the occasion. For many attendees, the festival became the main event once the march was called off.

The parade had been due to step off at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday. Organizers said that because of severe weather and flooding conditions, it had to be pushed back, stressing that the safety of participants and spectators came before everything else.

The flooding struck close to the heart of the event. Organizers pointed to heavy rain that left some flooding down by Montrose and Allen, the area where the parade's staging area is located. With part of that ground underwater, they said they were forced into a very tough decision to call the march off.

Among the crowd, the mood mixed celebration with disappointment. One attendee said it was a pity not to have the parade after looking forward to it, while another, visiting from Atlanta, said they had hoped to celebrate but would still find a way to do so. A third argued it felt wrong to wait longer when the sun was out and everything was already set up.

Organizers said they have already been in contact with the mayor's office about how to make up for the lost march. They said they spoke with officials about exploring options to reschedule the 2026 Pride Houston 365 Parade, and that there would be a discussion to review possible dates between July 19 and October 31.

The plan, organizers explained, is to slot the parade into a window between July and October, waiting until the FIFA World Cup period passes before beginning the planning stages in earnest. They said they made sure to preserve the celebration in their talks with the city, so that those left disappointed on Saturday can still get the event they deserve, and pledged to keep the public updated on the new date.
