A Long Island nonprofit is drawing attention for the way it is helping young students, having grown far beyond its early days, according to News 12.
The organization, called the Einstein program, provides free one-on-one tutoring and mentoring to students from historically underserved communities, pairing children with tutors who work with them regularly.
Among its students is Maximus, a fourth grader at Brooklyn Avenue School in Valley Stream, who logs on to a weekly Zoom session for lessons such as math. He and his older brother Mathias are both part of the program.
According to News 12, the family, a first-generation Guyanese family, joined the Einstein program back in 2021, among the very first to sign up.
Since then, the program has grown from just a few hundred children to more than 3,000 across Long Island and beyond, with organizers describing changes in students not only academically but socially and emotionally.
Whether the focus is math, science or mentorship, the Einstein program says its goal is to open doors for every child, one lesson at a time.
